Curriculum Description
Overview
The vision of Ningbo Foreign Language School Advanced Placement (AP) Center is to fully prepare students to matriculate and graduate from an accredited western university. The mission is to create an environment during students’ high school experience that allows students to thrive academically and culturally when they go abroad. The AP curriculum has been designed to meet both the vision and the mission of the overall program.
The Ningbo Foreign Language School AP Curriculum is the most comprehensive AP Curriculum offered in China. Currently offering eighteen AP courses, the structure of the curriculum has been designed to give students choices and opportunities to select courses that allow them to explore their interests. While certain courses are required for graduation, beginnings in Year 2, students have numerous course options across a wide range of subjects. The AP program encourages students to seriously consider their major and/or desired field of study and take classes that are in line with this long-term goal. Each year, when selecting courses, parents and students receive personalized attention and help with this process after consulting with a member of the AP Center administration team. The goal of this individualized attention is to ensure that all students excel by focusing on areas in which they are most interested and maximizing their potential.
There is a direct correlation between the rigor of courses taken and admissions success. Thus, students are encouraged to take the most rigorous courses in which success is deemed likely as the AP Center has a proven track record of helping these students gain admission into top overseas universities.
Year 1
Commencing in Year 1, students take classes that earn them four credits. Three classes are mandatory: AP Physics I; Pre-AP Math; and English for Academic Purposes I. Based on linguistic ability upon admission, students may be invited to take AP Human Geography and/or AP German Language in Year 1. Students who are not invited to take this course split their time between Pre-AP Art and Pre-AP Computer Science. Thus, all students complete their first year within the AP Center having completed one or two AP classes.
Year 1, while, in and of itself, academically rigorous, is a foundation year designed to help students boost their English ability, develop study skills, and improve studying habits. Students are expected to adjust to life in high school and work efficiently enough to quickly improve their overall English ability in order to grapple with a full load of AP courses which commence in Year 2. After the break for Spring Festival in Year 1, students will return to school and select courses for Year1.
Year 2
Students in Year 2 choose courses based on a track that they select for themselves. Unlike in Year 1, where students are invited to take advanced courses, students in Year 2 may select any course available at their level.
l   Students are required to choose a math course and can choose either AP Calculus AB or AP Statistics.  Students are also required to select an English course and can choose either AP English or English for Academic Purposes.  (They must meet certain requirements to continue through the AP English course but students are given assistance in meeting these requirements should they decide to take this challenging course.)
students must select either two or three courses from the following list:
*AP Human Geography or AP World History*AP Physics B*AP Studio Art
* AP Computer Science*AP Microeconomics*Pre-AP German II

In Year 3, students academic focus is on finishing strong, taking a rigorous academic schedule to prepare for university, and completing the admission process to top-notch universities.  Students choose between four and six courses from the following list:
*AP Computer Science; *AP Calculus BC/AP Calculus AB; *AP Statistics;*AP Macroeconomics;
*AP English Language/AP English Literature (if students have passed AP English Language in Year 2)/English for Academic Purposes III ; *AP German (if students have completed Pre-AP German I & II)
*AP Physics C; *AP Chemistry;*AP Psychology;*AP World History/AP Art History;

*AP人文地理或;   *AP世界历史;    *AP物理B;   *AP美术;
*AP计算机科学;   *AP微观经济学;  *AP预科德语II
